Lot #2499:
N. Y. N. H & H. R. R. "HARTFORD DIVISION" THOMPSON'S PATENT BELLBOTTOM RAILROAD LANTERN.
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/9/2020
A classic New England Thompson Lantern made by Peter Gray. This model is beautifully marked "N. Y. N. H & H. R. R." in classic Thompson fancy letters on the lid reflector. Added bonus is "HARTFORD DIVISION" embossing in the top cap. The Thompson patent stamp is usually found on the bail saddle, but there is no manufacturer's hallmark or patent dates on this one. The base is fixed and has the correct plug-in glass fount that shows no cracks. There is a serial number "1759" stamped into the base with significant break-through. Burner is a twin tube whale oil type. The flashed red globe is a standard New England barrel, nicely embossed "NYNH&HRR" in block letters in a rectangular panel; no significant rim chipping and no cracks. The globe is an acceptable fit, but not correct for this frame style. The lantern has a beautiful, smooth, age-earned patina with some original tin plating, no significant rust, and has not been cleaned significantly. Scale rating 9.
Condition: (Excellent).
