Pre-war SS “Germania” Regiment enlisted overcoat. This 1938 and 1939 dated overcoat represents the Waffen SS “Germania” Regiment, one of the first regiments of what later became the Waffen SS. This overcoat has a pair of SS collar tabs originally machine sewn to the collar. The rank tab is bare, and the other tab exhibits the “SS2” of the “Germania” Regiment. An early SS sleeve eagle is originally machine sewn on to the left sleeve in a zig-zag pattern. The SS shoulder boards are made from black wool with a rayon piping. The stylized “G” monogram, representing the “Germania” Regiment, is embroidered to each shoulder board. The stitching of the monogram does not go through the entire top of the shoulder; on the top layer of the top portion. A “Germania” cufftitle is machine sewn in black thread to the French cuff of the left sleeve. The lettering is machine sewn to the cufftitle, while the outer silver border is constructed with the correct seven strands. The overcoat has the maker mark of “Max Muller of Nurnberg” (with the proper Umlauts), and six sets of sizing numbers. Belone the size markings is what appears to be a “NL 39”. Below that marking is a “VA 1938” in a rectangular box in black ink. The collar is in dark green wool with two moth holes on the right rear. The two pocket flaps do not have any buttons. The front of the coat have two rows of six buttons. All the buttons are originally applied and made by “HA”. In addition to the two moth holes on the collar, there are two holes about the right side pocket flap; one to the right of the left pocket, and one under the left armpit. The coat is lined in a light gray cotton twill. There are two buttons on the rear false belt. The entire jacket appears to be untouched with all insignia originally applied. Very light and matching aging throughout. A very rare and desirable overcoat to an infamous early SS unit.
