The 1961 Neptune Mighty Mite WC-1 Outboard trolling motor was manufactured by the Muncie Gear Works in Muncie, Indiana founded in 1910. They started building outboard motors in 1930 where they made motors under many brands. The Neptune Mighty Mite was extremely popular. It was a carbon copy of the Evinrude Scout rated at 1.2 horsepower, they were increased to 1.7 after the war. After 1956 all outboard motors were made at Cordele. This example was manufactured in Muncie, which would indicate production prior to 1956. It is serial No. H3876RP. Decal on tank reads "NEPTUNE". Muncie Gear Works was sold in 1969. Mounted by way of C-clamp to a display board that exhibits a propeller, two vintage oil cans and a pull-rope. A near identical display, if not this exact display, is picture in an article on the internet entitled "History of the Muncie Gear Works Corporation Outboard Motors" and comes with the motor. Sold as display only.
