An exquisite set of matching MP44 magazine pouches with five magazines in overall excellent condition. Consignor indicates he purchased these pouches, with the MP44 (offered as lot 1024), from the son of the original veteran, Robert Bruce Jones, who captured the items during the Battle of the Bulge, at St. Vith, in December 1944, in 1983. The consignor has provided a notarized statement to this effect. The pouches are constructed of medium weight late war tan canvas. The canvas material is complete with no damage or tears, and has areas of very light patina. The typical "red stripe" is present along the lower obverse seam of the pouches. This red stripe is the indicator for the end of the fabric bolt. As the Germans used everything by this point in time, they just incorporated this red stripe into the pouch itself. All six brown leather pull tabs, as well as their corresponding horizontal leather loops are present, and without damage. The edges of the upper magazine cover flaps are constructed of pressed "Ersatz" leatherette, with one of the flaps interior actually bearing the stamp of the leatherette supplier. The reverse belt loops are made of typical late war soft synthetic webbed fabric, including the "D-ring" loop. The belt loops are stamped with the makers illegible code, and the date "1944". The adjustable connecting strap is damaged on the long end, but still remains connected to the pouches. The reinforced metal tip of the connecting strap is marked with "LUX". The short end is also intact with the buckle having some light rust. Five original MP44 magazines, with various maker codes, accompany the pouches. The magazine conditions rate as excellent. A rare and original set of matching MP44 pouches. CONDITION: Excellent. DMW
