Triple engraved and inscribed Degen. Silver wire wrap grip has an applied regimental cipher suggesting FR Friedrich II Cipher. Brass regimental urn-shaped pommel and knuckle guard with upswept shell guard. Obverse of blade acid etched "Das Offizierkorps des Landwehrbezirks Dortmund Seinem Adjutantem, dem Premier Lieutenant Redeker von Inf. Rgt. No. 13" (The Officers Corps and Infantry of Dortmund to our Adjutant and First Lieutenant Redeker, from the 13th Infantry Regiment) with a Panoply of Arms and leaf motif. Reverse is acid etched with Panoply of Arms motif. Clamshell inscribed "Fur her und Pflicht, bis Stahl und Herzzerbricht" (For Honor and Duty, until steel and the heart breaks), and dates of service "21. XII 1850 * 19. IX 1888". CONDITION: Blade etching still crisp but with some removed rust and pitting remaining. Brass hilt in good condition. Silver wire wrapped grip excellent. Steel scabbard deep even age rust brown with a few minor dents. Note that this model of sword is normally found with a leather scabbard, however, present scabbard fits perfectly and may be the original.
