One piece iron backstrap and heavily decorated pommel that features a fantastic attacking mounted Crusader in relief with a Christian-style cross emblazoned on his shield. Peened floral and figured pommel. Hilt displays a forged and twisted quillon with a twisted wire wrapped grip. Although typically associated with the mid-17th century, there is good evidence to indicate cup-hilt rapiers and broadswords continued in use in colonial America well into the 18th century.
