Circa Late 19th / Early 20th Century A REMARKABLE PIECE OF EARLY MEDICAL HISTORY — IN MINIATURE An exceptionally rare salesman’s demonstration model of a physician’s examination chair, created to allow medical-equipment salesmen to demonstrate the construction, positioning and mechanical operation of the full-size chair to prospective doctors and medical practices. Far more than a decorative miniature, this highly detailed example features upholstered seat and back, padded armrests, articulated headrest, adjustable leg and foot support, and an intricate working metal framework replicating the movements of the full-size medical chair. Salesman’s samples of complex medical equipment were specialized demonstration pieces, and surviving examples of this size and mechanical detail are exceptionally uncommon today.
