Constructed of silver plated pewter and was possibly produced by James Deakin. The teapot features attractive engraving with presentation that reads "PRESENTED / by / Major C.P. Forbes / 109th Regt." on obverse and "To / Colr. Sergt. J. Bowers, / B. Company / 109th Regt.". C.P. Forbes is Charles Pulteney Forbes who started his military career as an ensign in 1858. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1860, captain 1865, brevet major 1872, major 1878, lieutenant colonel 1880. He is listed as receiving half pay as colonel in 1885. There is not much information on Sergeant Bowers. The regiment had been in India as the 3rd Bombay Infantry and then the 109th Regiment of Foot (Bombay Infantry) on transfer to the British Army in 1862, England in 1877, and later amalgamated with the 100th in 1881. Given Forbes rank, it is assumed this teapot was presented some time during the 1870s. James Deakin & Sons was active at Sidney Works, Matilda Street, Sheffield from 1866-1936. CONDITION: Moderate patina throughout with scattered blemishes. Older cleaning around details. Acorn finial with some hairlines. Good.
