1898, GERMANY: Gambrinus, the jolly king on top of the barrel, has been declared reputedly to be the inventor of beer. He was from Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium - or shall we say Holland - as Holland and Belgium were one country in those days. Symphonion produced these music boxes for pubs or bars in the late 19th century, and located in the barrel is a music box with 84 teeth playing 30cm (11 - 3/4") discs. CONSIDERATIONS: Attributed to the Werner Staub collection. The barrel and music box mechanism are original and in very good condition with only age defining wear, and some scuffing noted. The chiseled style king on top is a replica, and was done very well. The style 25 GS is a rare instrument and very few survive today. This is a respectable example and fully functional. With one disc and key.
