Regulation Civil War US cavalry enlisted man’s jacket, complete with all buttons, trim and shoulder scales. Dark blue wool body and yellow worsted wool piping on collar, lapel, waist, bolsters, rear seams, and cuffs. Regulation twelve small general service eagle down the front, two on each side of the collar with false buttonholes, and two on each functional cuff. Hook and eye in place at lower front collar. Body lined in correct loosely woven brown and gray fabric with a few small tears. Complete white sleeve linings with black ink size stamps: “1” and single dot, a brown ink “X,” likely an individual worker’s code, and an oval inspector or maker’s stamp. Original Civil War shoulder scales in place on the shoulders. CONDITION: Excellent. No moth damage, holes or tears. Buttonholes very good. Oval stamp in sleeve blurred. A couple of buttons perhaps restitched. Original shoulder scales likely added for display. Cavalry was regarded as the most dashing and romantic of the armed services during the war. A superior example of their uniform jacket. CONDITION: Very good.
