An impressive mermaid vase, which was made by the Vance Faience Company of Tiltonville, Ohio in 1898. This finely molded pottery vase was glazed in shades of gold, tan and dark brown, and it features four art nouveau mermaids standing amongst swirling waves of water, tangled in fishing nets, with dangerous-looking fish swimming nearby. It has a ruffled top and an impressed mark to base “Vance F. Co. No. 118”. It measures 12” tall by about 10 1/2” across at its widest. It is a very finely cast, with a good glaze.
