A fine example of a Victorian era bill. These polearms were originally designed as farm implements but were the favored polearms of the English and were utilized throughout their conflicts during the 14th-17th centuries. Not only were these weapons used for warfare, but they were also popular as display pieces during the Victorian era. This example is the classic style of bill with prominent spike and curved head, featuring 9 stamped semi-circles in a row just above the collar. The head measures approximately 28 - 1/2" and is fixed to a haft by an iron collar and 2 iron straps that are each secured by 3 misshapen screws on each side. Straps are raised rather than impressed. Overall measurement is approximately 98 - 1/2". CONDITION: The head exhibits a pleasant gray patina with scattered freckling and light casting flaws. Haft exhibits scattered dents and pock marks throughout its length. A very nice displayable polearm.
