Late 19th century with characteristic flared-end wooden shaft (only found on true Zulu Assegais). The Zulu word for this type of spear is Ikilwa. The 12" steel blade is hand forged and the rat-tail tang is bound into the shaft by a calf tail that was slipped over the two parts as one piece. The hide tail was then cured to shrink down binding shaft and tang firmly together. Very good condition; blade shows some wear, scratches, and scattered marks from use. Shaft is excellent with a few scattered marks.
