Circa mid-late 19th century wood cannon. The style of cannon and mount would suggest that this piece could be earlier, but due to the construction this piece was most likely crafted in the mid 1800s. The cannon features four functioning wheels with domed, slotted screws holding each wheel in place. The wood trunnions end with a metal washer and a domed, slotted screw and are held in place by metal straps, each one is secured by 7 flat, slotted screws. Once decorated with paint, the cannon is now devoid of color and only exhibits faint evidence of the once applied paint which is flaking from the sides and wheels. This cannon most likely sat in a GAR hall after the Civil War and was used as a display piece. CONDITION: The wood exhibits various cracks and blemishes but remains sturdy. The last remnants of paint are cracked and the colors have faded. The wheels function properly. Overall good. JLD
