C. 1904, The Mills Novelty Co., Chicago, IL. Mills Novelty Co. devised ingenious lung testers to attract and amuse the arcade customer. The front of this extremely rare penny arcade lung tester states "WHO BLOWS BEST", capturing the competitive nature in all of us and making the Mills "Hats Off" lung tester one of the most entertaining games of its day. The operation of this massive ten-foot machine is to blow the hats off the comical papier-mache heads by raising the center pointer past each one. Five hats blown off rings a bell, and if all eight heads are bared the lucky windbag gets his penny returned. There are less than a handful of these extremely rare arcade machines known in collections, and here is your chance to add one to yours, fresh to the market. CONDITION: This machine is an original. Some parts of the interior operating system have been replaced or repaired to put the machine back into operation. The front door panel is original as is the whimsical marquee. The tin hats are all in tact and have been carefully repainted or repaired, and raise properly when mechanism is triggered. The indicator pointer that raises when you blow into the tube is a replacement. A fantastic survivor and a centerpiece to any advanced penny arcade collection.
