Traditional and instantly recognizable crossbow architecture with fruitwood stock and inlaid throughout with staghorn vignettes of various fruits, vegetables and other florals with tendrils connecting various vignettes. Small hand stop. Wrought iron bow with old (period?) woven string. Simple iron stirrup and nose reinforcement. Rounded cheekpiece. Simple trigger shoe and guard made of iron. CONDITION: Good. Iron has acquired a lovely patina with some appropriate forging flaws in iron. Linen string with some fraying at extremities. A few inlays are either missing or partially broken; a few replaced. Mechanism has "kicked" the top of the stock and split wood there. A crossbow with great visual appeal with much of its original decoration. EW
