ARTIFACTS FROM THE BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN.

Lot consists of the following artifacts that were recovered from the Little Bighorn battlefield: 6 .45-70 Bennet inside primed carbine shells casings that would have been used by troopers armed with the Springfield Model 1873 trapdoor, 1 .50-70 shell casing, 1 .45 Smith & Wesson shell casing, 1 .45 long colt shell casing, 1 lead bullet, 1 keeper for a model 1851 belt, 1 U.S. Army eagle button marked "Horstmann Bros & Co. Phila," on the reverse, 1 decorative brass thistle, and 1 unknown brass artifact. All are from the family of Donald McIntosh, who was a Lieutenant and the commanding officer of Company G, 7th US Cavalry. Lieutenant McIntosh was killed during the battle of Little Bighorn while he was trying to rally his men. Included is a signed letter from the McIntosh family. The provenance included states that the artifacts were picked up by Lt. McIntosh's brother John and his widow Molly in 1896 during the 20th anniversary of the battle.
