The well forged head measuring 24" with cutting blade measuring 10" and spike measuring 9 - 1/4". The polearm decorated with period engraving including IHS and cross, constellation, and large "H", and other cabalistic decorations to protect the user. Scorpion is mounted on a faceted pole, early, but probably not the original. CONDITION: Good for a polearm of this age and most of the engraved decoration is clearly visible. 88" overall. A rare form of polearm and seldom encountered. PROVENANCE: FORMER COLLECTION OF THE NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART.
