For a nearly identically configured example, see X.3, pg. 24, in "Records of the Medieval Sword" by Oakeshott. These swords are traditional dated to 950-1050 AD. Wide blade measures nearly 2" across the ricasso with a deep central fuller that runs for 24". Large sized and medially ridged crossguard and triangular pommel. CONDITION: Excavated. With heavy corrosion throughout, some areas through the metal, particular in thin areas of fuller, but the blade is complete in profile. Finding a true Viking sword with this level of completeness is very rare. PROVENANCE: From the collection of Frank Andrina, the noted Disney animator and arms and armor expert, and sold during the dispersal of his collection at Morphy Auctions in 2012.
