For a nearly identical example see the spontoon to the far in plate 67 on page 62 of "American Polearms" by Rodney Hilton Brown. This example has a blade that measures 8 - 3/8" in height with a brass conical 4 - 1/4" socket, retained by two rose head nails. The guard measures 4 - 3/4" and is hand forged iron. The blade is tapered is of diamond-section form. Complete with old possibly original wooden haft, with more contemporary brass spike at base. CONDITION: Blade and cross bar retain a spotted grey patina and show some wear. Brass retains a dark patina with some losses around one of the nails. Haft is very good. A Nice American Revolutionary War Polearm.
