Beginning production at Saint-Denis in Paris, production was moved to Coventry, England in 1915 due to the encroaching German army. By the end of World War I, 40,000 Model 1909 light machine guns had been produced in Coventry, England alone. This English Model 1909 was assembled from a parts kit and retains original parts aside from the aluminum dummy receiver, which is marked "Hotchkiss Portable Machine Gun MK 1/ Patented Caliber .303". External numbers are mismatched. English proofs visible on barrel. Tripod is marked "C B & S". Included is one 25 round feed strip complete with 24 rounds of French 8mm Lebel ammunition, and an empty 30 round feed strip. CONDITION: Metal components retain generous amounts of reapplied blue finish. Aluminum receiver retains majority of black finish with scattered areas of wear. Brass components have turned a pleasing patina and show minor wear. Wood components on stock show few minor handling marks. MW
