A very good example of the regulation holster for the Colt .44 Army Revolver, the classic cavalry pistol. Black leather with nice color and finish, tight seams. Latch tab and belt loop in place and secure. Rivet and stitching to tab indicate mid-war production. Crisply marked on the belt loop by E. Gaylord, a major contractor for accouterments during the war. Standard military configuration with full flap to hold pistol butt forward on the trooper’s right. Faint stencil on the inside of the flap may read “…. ART…” indicating issue to a mounted artilleryman, either a driver or member of a horse artillery battery attached to the cavalry corps. CONDITION: Very good. Minor crazing and rubs to finish. A solid holster. SR
