Complete World War II US Army Engineers Japanese Mine Training Aid Set No. 2. The set consists of a wood transit chest that is latched together with metal hinges and holds several examples of inert Japanese explosive devices. This kit was designed for issue to US Army Engineering units, in order to prepare for the encountering Japanese ordnance in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. The wood chest measures approximately 39” long by 13” wide by 6” high. The interior is compartmentalized with various sections that house the various pieces of inert training aid devices as well as their components. This example is complete with the original descriptive poster which is glued inside the lid and exhibits the set, components, and their translations. The chest also contains the original June 1945 dated TB EBG 79 manual which is intended to help familiarize the troops with the contents of the chest. The set contains the Type 93 anti-tank mine with fuze, Type 3 land mine with fuze, magnetic mine, yardstick antitank mine with 4 fuzes, and the Type 97 hand grenade, which could be used as a mine. All of the contents are quite well preserved, with some pieces exhibiting slight blemishes. The paper translation diagram is a bit tattered and exhibits rips and tears but the graphics remain legible. The wood chest remains sturdy and has a US Army engineers castle painted on the front. It is not uncommon for sets like this to not experience much use due to the late war manufacturing period and the subsequent end of the war. CONDITION: Very good. JLD
