Produced by one of the most respected and influential knifesmiths ever known to the Americas and one of the very few Scagel handmade knives ever offered for sale. It has 6 - 1/8" slightly turned down blade with 5 - 3/4 false edge back grind, 11 - 1/8" overall. It has brass hand guard with red fiber and German silver spacers and a stacked leather handle with pinned stag pommel, slightly turned down. Left side of the blade has Mr. Scagel’s cartouche known as the "Kriss" mark. Accompanied by what is probably its original brown leather sheath with brass button. William Scagel, commonly considered to be the grandfather of modern, custom handmade knives, lived and worked and made his knives in Michigan primarily in the 1920’s and 1930’s producing very functional and durable hunting knives. During World War II he made many fighting knives for troops going off to war. William Scagel's work became the inspiration for "Bo" Randall who emulated his knife designs. This pattern later became known as the Model 3 Hunter when copied by Randall. CONDITION: Good. Blade shows sharpening with areas of cleaned pitting with a very vivid Kriss mark. Wide red fiber spacer in the handle is very fine as is handle and pommel are extremely fine. The stag pommel shows light wear with a wonderful aged and authentic patina. Sheath is very fine and leather is rigid. Stitching is strong and intact. TDW
