This piece has an 8 1/2" round iron barrel with early proof marks and an "engraved" baluster-turned breech and tang. The barrel has an "untouched" gray-oxidation with the early "trade" style original flintlock (original) bearing the name "JENKINS" and having scroll engraving at its tail and on its cock. The frizzen is "squared" at the top and the bridle-less pan is faceted. The engraved brass hardware has classic "Trade" style engraving with a large "Snowflake" (or compass star) engraved on the trigger-guard bow. The raised acanthus-leaf escutcheon is indicative that this piece could have been a "chiefs-grade" piece, with an arrowhead final on the trigger-guard and also engraved on the butt cap finial. The walnut stock has its original varnish finish and a rich patina. There is an old missing 4" long sliver missing on the upper right forestock, and a "chip-out" in front of the lock. The form and style of this pistol date it to the 1750s or 1760s. The piece is in untouched, original, condition, never having been enhanced by a modern collector, fortunately.
