Samuel Hare is listed in the "Rolls of Connecticut Men in the French and Indian War" by the Connecticut Historial Society. On page 114, he is listed a soldier in 1756 of theSecond Regiment, Third Company under Major Starr of Middletown, CT. He was stationed at Fort William Henry. The horn has a tapered 9-1/2" curved body. Relief ring near spout and serrations around butt end with a serrated flange for sling. Front of body inscribed "SAMVEL HARE OCT ye 1757". Wooden plug also inscribed "SAMUEL HARE" in block letters within two engraved concentric circles. CONDITION: Spout may be slightly shortened, mellow patina with some scattered minor scratches from use. Relief ring and mouth of spout show minor chipping. Included with this lot is a handwritten letter from Tom Grinslade regarding the horn and Samuel Hare. Also, there is a copy from rolls of the pages where his name is listed.
