This rare 2 Pounder cannon was not converted to centerfire and is very rare. This small cannon is a Rock Island Arsenal documented US Army gun. Reproduction lanyard-pull with wooden handle, cleaning brush on attractive wooden with brass hardware shaft and well-made reproduction wooden ammunition box as seen in Wounded Knee photos, with one example brass cased 1.65" cartridge marked “FA” with 1900 date included with this lot. Additionally a rare tinned shipping canister for ammunition is included. CONDITION: Attractive deep brown stained finish wooden spoke wheels with steel tires turning a brown patina over pitting on contact surfaces. The gun has been cleaned and painted. Bore is fair with discernible rifling and pitted. Breech block is appropriately in the white and in fine condition turning a grey-brown patina. A former gun owner engraved his sweetheart's name in the barrel. A wonderful small cannon from the 19th century which would make a fantastic display with its combination of brass and shiny enamel finish!
