Circa 1750, this sword has a straight triangular colichemarde blade decorated at the top on both sides with a sun in splendor. Finely pierced solid silver hilt. Clam shell guard decorated with a pierced and chased splayed eagle on one side and a fouled anchor and stand of arms on the other. Pommel is also pierced and features an anchor, arms motifs, and an eagle head. The knucklebow is decorated on both with chased stands of arms. The decorative grip is wrapped with bands of silver alternating with finely braided strands of silver wire. CONDITION: Blade has scattered freckling and shows some wear to engraving, grey patina overall. Hilt is excellent showing light wear and a dark grey unpolished patina. Grip is excellent. A very attractive and ornate example made for a naval captain. DMG
