19th Century Japanese naval cutlass with large brass basket guard and katana blade. The typical katana blade exhibits a faded wavy temper line. The heavy brass guard displays line engraving along the edges and pierced slot at the pommel. Carved wood grip with twisted copper wire wrap. Wood scabbard, painted black with brass fittings. CONDITION: The sharpened blade is cloudy/grey with areas of dark staining. Hilt and guard in excellent condition with tight wire wrap. Scabbard paint exhibits minor chips and scratches. DG
