Lot consists of 6 signed receipts by Continental Army officers for supplies. 5 are dated September 1776 for barrels of pork, flour, and rum at Kingsbridge in September 1776. One dated October 6 uses the short-lived designation “Congressbridge.” The latter and 4 Kingsbridge receipts note the supplies are for the “troops of the United States of America” received from Capt. Jermiah Wadsworth and received on behalf of Jos. Trumbull, Commissary Gen. The spot, a bridge connecting Manhattan and the Bronx, was of strategic importance after the withdrawal from Long Island and New York City. Subsequent fighting compelled Washington’s withdrawal through New Jersey. CONDITION: Very good. Terminology nicely demonstrates awareness of a new nation and final break with Britain as of July 4. Ex-Lattimer.
