18th century, Mittenwald, Germany. Retaining the label of a Aegidius Klotz (1733-1805). The figured maple violin with single board back and mellow well worn surface. Fingerboard and tail piece of ebony. Tail piece inlaid hand harp of gilt metal. A fine tuner currently attached to the tailboard. The violin is accompanied with an unmarked bow, fitted in a carrying case. 33-1/4" length x 8" at widest point. The instrument may possibly have had very minor restoration to possible shrinkage cracks that may have appeared overtime. Not visible damage or imperfections noted. Tone appears clear and crisp with no signs of vibration. Surface with mellow patina retaining good French polish luster, overall very good. Note: There is a handwritten letter from L.R. Davis of Rock Island, Illinois dated 1937 certifying in his opinion the authenticity of this instrument in relation to the Klotz family of violin makers. The original letter will accompany the violin.

Item Dimensions: Case : 31" x 9 -1/2".
