Lot consists of (A) Halberd with 9 - 1/2" blade, pierce with a cross. Similar crosses appear on German miner's axes. Fluke struck on right side with an armorer's mark and measuring 2 - 3/4", heavy central spike with four flats measuring 20". Halberd has its original long straps with head and straps measuring 49" and overall length of 95". CONDITION: Good for a halberd of this period. Pole possibly the original. Museum number in red lacquer. A far better than average early polearm. (B) Spear measures 19" at blade and 91". Appears to be perhaps of African make on European pole. CONDITION: Patinated overall. PROVENANCE: FORMER COLLECTION OF THE NELSON-ATKINS MUSEUM OF ART.
