Lot consists of: (A) Khaki ball cap with sterling Admiral's rank insignia pinned to the front, leather sweatband inked "W. Halsey Jr", a pair of built-in sunglasses mounted under the brim. Accompanying the cap is a 4" X 6" notecard dated June 1957 written by Halsey in blue pen, reading: "Dear Ken, Please excuse my shakeness (sic) but I have had two attacks - anyway I located this ball cap which I wore at the battle of Leyte Gulf in October of 1944. As you requested I have put this down on this card for you. I lost your small card. My Best (signed) WF Halsey, F Adm, (Ret)." CONDITION: Cap is in very good condition with the exception of the sunglasses which are broken. Notecard displays old tape residue. (B) Green wool visor cap with interior label reading "Berkshire Deluxe", and card mounted in the lining sleeve reading "Brehon Somervell GEN". Accompanying the cap is a Soldiers Relief Fund card reading "Donated By GEN. Brehon B. Somervell and (signed) Brehon B. Somervell". CONDITION: Cap is in very good condition displaying a few areas of moth tracking. Also included is an August 15, 1945 issue of Stars And Stripes reporting the end of the war. DG
