First is a portrait of a young woman in landscape of tall grass, signed lower left; work size: 20" x 27" in an artistic maple frame. Second is Chickadee Farm in egg tempera, signed lower right; work size: 17 - 1/2" x 27". From a summer studio on Monhegan Island, Maine, and a winter studio in Exeter, New Hampshire, Donald Stone painted landscapes and water scenes in a highly Impressionist style. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and taught in Boston at the Vesper George School of Art and the New England School of Art. Not examined out of frames.
