Lot consists of (A) German Hanger circa 1740-1780. For an identical example, see 38.SS on page 316 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. As stated in the book, theses accompanied many German mercenaries serving here during the American Revolution. Slightly curved unfullered blade with deep oval crown over "F" mark on left side. Brass hilt with heart-shaped guard, one side removed during the period for sword to be flush when hanging on belt, as is often seen with this pattern when found in America. Spiraling cast brass grip and massive olive-shaped pommel with integral capstan. The cataloguer has never seen one with its original scabbard. The brown leather scabbard is original to this sword and has sheet brass mounts. The front is decorated with pressed "X" designs, as seen on 18th century leather. Complete with its original shoulder belt and frog, decorated with X designs en suite, brass D-shaped buckle. CONDITION: Blade retains a polished surface, edge has been sharpened and shows several "battle nicks", tip slightly bent. Hilt retains a pleasing dark mustard patina and is tight to blade. Scabbard excellent and still pliable, some scattered wear, excellent stitching. Belt very good. (B) British carbine bayonet with scabbard. For another example, see 21.BB on page 285 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by Neumann. Circa 1750-1810. Socket measures 2 - 7/8", blade 11 - 1/2", 15" overall. Complete with its original black leather scabbard. CONDITION: Retains a dark patina, period repair using brass on neck. Scabbard shows losses to finish and a tear where hanger meets scabbard. Some flaking to surfaces. (C) Cartridge waist belt with 12 tin cartridge canisters. Roller buckle. CONDITION: Good with some cracking, losses to surface and crazing.
