Lot consists of: (A) Original Indian Wars era cavalry setup as worn on campaign in the era of the Apache Wars. M1881 holster with large embossed “US” on front and two position flap to accommodate either Colt single action .45 or a Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver. Accompanied by an Indian Wars period Rock Island Arsenal belt with rectangular brass "US" buckle & tab. Also attached is a M1872 Hagner No. 2 .50 caliber cartridge pouch. (B) M1874 Dyer .45-70 cartridge pouch on Rock Island Arsenal marked belt with "US" buckle. (C) M1874 .45-70 Watervliet Arsenal marked cartridge pouch. (D) Rock Island Arsenal marked McKeever .45-70 cartridge pouch. CONDITION: Body of holster is in good serviceable condition, with only the slightest crazing. US stamp is still raised and very legible. Flap is also soft and supple, quite wrinkled but sound. Belt is crazed overall, but intact and supple enough for display. Hagner leather pouch, with 24 stitched loops for .50 caliber carbine cartridges, used during early Indian Wars era is very nice with an intact brass finial and retaining strap with rivets and stitching tight. Reverse belt loops fine, interior clean with some verdigris on brass rivets. The separate McKeever and Dyer pouch are excellent and solid, and the belt setup with the Dyer pouch is crazed overall, but solid and displayable. CONDITION: Very good overall. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Wagner cavalry museum collection.
