Lot consists of medals awarded to U.S. troops in WWII as well as a framed medal, letter, and silver star awarded to Vernon W. Nelson. The frame has a letter accompanying it describing the actions Vernon took in Italy to be awarded his silver star. The frame has a portrait of Vernon, along with his silver star, and a letter in memory of Vernon. The backside has a letter from Brigadier General J.E. Wood of the U.S. Army awarding Vernon with his silver star. Accompanying the frame are four other medals. A silver star (#102660) with its case, ribbon bar, and lapel pin. Also included is three purple hearts, two without their original cases. CONDITION: Frame and its contents are in excellent condition, showing no staining on the photograph or letters. The letter on the rear does have creases from folding. The cased silver star is in great condition with minute staining on the ribbon. Pin and bar show some aging in the portions of the ribbons. Lapel pin has small area of discoloration. Case shows handling marks on outside, interior has no staining. The first purple heart shows scattered handling marks and light surface. Interior case lid shows staining. The second and third purple hearts show minor handling marks. Ribbons show aging with one showing slight fraying near pin. Overall a nice lot of WWII servicemen medals.
