This is the only folding Bowie our experts have seen with a full alligator handle, although a few are known in fixed blades. Circa 1845. Overall length when opened 11-1/4", blade length 5". Clip point with swedge on both sides. Remainder of the back of blade decorated with thumbnail filings. Stamped on blade "Woodcock's Celebrated Cutlery", and on haft "Cast Steel Bowie Knife". Blade overall turned grey, with some light pitting and some grinding to the blade. Beautiful ivory scales carved in the likeness of an alligator with glass eyes. German silver seashell demi cross guard. Has lockback working action.
