France, ca. 1880, unmarked French pressed bisque flange head with brown stationary glass eyes, finely painted brows and lashes, closed mouth, and blonde human hair wig with cork pate on a seated carton body with integral legs, articulated mechanical right arm with bow, and stationary left arm holding a painted papier mache and wood violin. Wearing an all original silk costume with metal brocaded trim and matching cape and hat with feathers. The figure is seated on a velvet covered metal base with turned wood feet containing the musical brass mechanism. When operated the figure turns head left and right, and moves the bow across the violin at various rates, the music is accompanied by a faintly heard mechanism which reproduces a "violin" like sound. All contained in a glass dome with wood base.
