America, ca. 1890, a finely crafted one of a kind clockwork toy with a rosewood hull and canvas covered deck. The mechanism is concealed in the hull and activates a finely engineered articulated cloth dressed metal body with jointed wood hands holding oars. The head is crafted from a commercial German papier mache doll head and is wearing a straw hat. When activated the figure realistically slides forward and back on a moving seat as it rows.
