Shoulder head incised “1234 Germany No. 5 DEP” by Alt, Beck & Gottschalck with solid dome head, inset glass eyes, closed mouth on pink cloth body with composition lower arms. Dolls distributed by R. Eckhoff in the Netherlands; regional costume with very unusual original metal helmet over lace bonnet was worn by ladies from Groninger, Netherlands; metal helmet signifies that the doll represents a married or engaged woman. When a marriage proposal was accepted the girl put on her metal helmet, as was the custom of the area. This doll’s dress, jacket and apron were apparently copied from an original outfit shown in Coleman’s Doll Encyclopedia, page 210, but the metal helmet is original to this doll. A rarity!

Condition: (Excellent).
