Woodland period 3000-1300 B.P. Decatur County Tennessee. Dover chert was the abundant natural resource hidden away in the rich, riverine valleys of Middle Tennessee which provided a building block for the Copena Culture, allowing them to craft the magnificent offertory blades shown here. For over 40 years this cache has been the benchmark to which all other Copenas are compared. The center blade, at 6 inches, remains one of the finest examples on record. Several points have tiny, as made chips. One point has a small portion of the tip missing.
