800 - 600 B.P. The Caddo made very few effigy pottery vessels. To find a solid unrestored example, as in this duck is rare indeed. Ducks were of special importance to the Mississippians because they could exist in all three cosmic realms. Above earth, because they could fly, on earth, as they could walk, and below earth, because they could dive underwater.
