6000-4000 B.P Archaic period. Montgomery Co., Tennessee near Blooming Grove Creek. Wirey granite. This is one of only two known butterfly bannerstones made of wiry granite. This is the only known example containing two engraved lines on one side of the barrel and a single engraved line on the other barrel side. This bannerstone is absolutely perfect in balance, form and symmetry. The dense hard black quartz component within the wiry granite matrix still retains the original highly polished surface. Other softer minerals surrounding the quartz have degridated slightly throughout time, leaving a unique surface that verifies authenticity. This butterfly form in granite is not likely to be seen at auction again.

Item Dimensions: 3 - 5/16" x 2" Dia. x 20mm.
