700 - 500 B.P. Late Mississippian era, Dallas phase. Rockwood Landing, Roane Co., Tennessee. Banded metamorphic greenstone. The spaulate form is one of the rarest of all ceremonial artifacts within the Dallas culture. To find one drilled is even more rare. This example, found by Jack East at Rockwood Landing, Tennessee features an immaculate bit edge and a highly polished finish. Attractive color bands running through material were captured by the Ancient maker.
