Oil on canvas. Signed at lower right. Ben Austrian was born in Reading Pa. and in his late twenties decided to pursue a career as an artist. He left the states to study in Paris and upon returning set up a studio in Reading and wintered in Palm Beach Florida. He is known best for his incredibly well executed paintings of chicks as fine art paintings. His most notable commercial work is the famous chick that he illustrated for the Bon Ami can which is still used today. This work displays the typical subject matter, period and quality of Austrian’s work. Other unsigned examples of this same image have come to market in the past few years that were very similar but with obvious differences.
