Serial No. 16173. Early 1875 production, 5-1/2" barrel, .45, with original walnut grips. Black powder frame. Matching numbers except cylinder, which has no number visible. 45 in rear trigger bow. Gun has been cleaned and polished. Top barrel markings are strong and the frame markings are gone. The bottoms of the grips are engraved "J.E.C. '84". Early bullseye ejector rod head. This Colt is accompanied by a factory letter which indicates that it left the factory on March 23, 1875 in a shipment of 50 guns to Mayer & Geiger in Omaha, Nebraska. Letter states that the barrel length and the stock are not listed, and that this usually indicates 7-1/2" barrel length and walnut stocks, as these were considered standard issue at that time. Barrel length may have been reduced. Gun is also accompanied by a 2004 letter relating some Western history as it pertains to this gun.
