Serial No. 1844. This was Colt's first cartridge revolver and manufactured specifically for the .44 rimfire cartridge. Approximately 7,000 were manufactured between 1872 to 1873. Standard features were a 7-1/2" round barrel, six shot unfluted cylinder, .44 rimfire caliber, single action. This example has the Army size walnut grips. The barrel has been period altered to 5-1/4". Missing the loading gate. Stocks refinished and shy to metal. All matching numbers except wedge. No cylinder scene. Cylinder has numerous dents. The barrel address is readable. Front sight has been dovetailed in. Strong frame markings. Excellent screws. Perfect working order. Strong rifling with some minor corrosion. A majority of these guns saw very hard service and few survive with any condition. This example is very good as period altered and has a great Western look.
