Fine R.C. Rice Warren, Ohio. Most of these heavy bench rifles were individually made during the 1850-60’s by custom gunsmiths and saw heavy service during the Civil War by snipers on both sides of the conflict. This is an extremely fine example of just such a scoped rifle and one of the few pairings in which the scope is marked with a plaque that bears the same name as the maker of the rifle. The lock is a Golcher side hammer. Caliber is 38. Gun weighs 16-3/4 pounds and sports a 30” barrel, no fore-stock and a simple curved steel type butt stock in superb condition. Set for a false muzzle (not present). Near mint bore and action. Wood is fine with no cracks. Metal is smooth gun gray. Beautiful optics. Scope is 34-1/2” and has the Malcolm style mounts with rear adjustment.
