Serial No. 75970 and 75971. This is a highly engraved pair of black powder frame Colt Single Action Army revolvers with 5 ½” barrels in caliber 44-40. They are high quality engraved examples done in identical style with gold plated hammers and triggers and both sport a pair of vintage stag grips. Both shipped to New York in 1882 but to two different dealers. 971 was sent to Hartley & Graham while 970 was sent to Wexell & Degress. Factory letters state that they were shipped in 44 caliber with no mention of barrel lengths or grips and neither list as factory engraved. Usually, barrel lengths that are not listed are shipped as a 7-1/2” during this era and both were listed in blue finish. They are now nickel of which each gun retains almost 100% of this finish. Factory stamps are perfect but there are no caliber marks visible on either gun but gauge out as 44’s. Both guns have strong bores with some frosting or minor corrosion. Both guns have all four Colt hammer clicks. They have the old style screw in frames and early 1st generation hammers and proper barrel stamps for era. Of course, both are antiques. A stunning and seldom seen consecutive numbered pair.
